Mt. Calvary is a Bible-believing, Fundamental, Independent Baptist Church. We believe that the King James Bible is God's preserved Word for man today, and it is the foundation for our doctrine and practice for Christians living in this world. We believe in "old fashioned preaching and singing". We still sing the old hymns of the Faith and our singers sing from their hearts. Our members always do their best to make sure any visitor that walks through our doors receives a genuine and warm welcome. We strive to have heart-felt and spirit-filled services with a family atmosphere to worship, in order to help us grow as a Christian and to help bring the lost to Christ.
Neil Poole has been married to Sonya Long Poole since 1974. They have three children and eight grandchildren. Neil Poole Jr. is married to Erica Welborn Poole whose children are Grace, Evy, and Harper. Charity Auman is married to Jason Auman whose children are Lexi and Lindsey (twins), and Josie. David Poole is married to Janet Williamson Poole whose children are Landon and Callie. Neil and Sonya's home church is Gospel Light Baptist located in Walkertown, NC.
Pastor Neil holds degrees from Liberty Baptist University, with a Bachelor of Science in Religion with double minors in Theology and Psychology in 1978. He also received a Doctorate of Theology degree in 2002 from Faith Temple Baptist College located in Franklinville, NC and has been an Instructor there since its beginning in 2000. Sonya received an Advanced Diploma in Bible Studies from Faith Temple Baptist College in 2008.
On June 5, 1988 Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church had a humble beginning in the garage of Tommy and Jo Harris on Brook Drive. We moved to our present location on August 7, 1988, and on November 12, 1988 held a chartering service. Brother Neil Poole was called and ordained and became our first pastor. He and his wife, Sonya, and family have been serving Mount Calvary since 1988. We have remodeled and extended our church and also our Sunday School building. We are presently in a pay as we go building project for a Sunday School/Fellowship building.
